new-old bookshelf

first craigslist purchase ever (captured in a terribly blurry picture)! it was an exciting staten island driving and missing exits/onramps adventure. very exciting stuff, i’d been wanting one for a long time, fun to read, but not as fun to live in a pile of books.

sort of  the one ‘authentic’ non-ikea part of my room. found the bread box on the street and a friend gave me the typewriter for christmas last year. wow, it’s actually a really old part of my room. even that yellow stripey umbrella used to be my mom’s….and that laundry hamper is FIVE years old. i mean, five years is a long time for a laundry hamper.

i always enjoy

that this lady
EmilyDickinson

wrote this poem:
Wild nights! Wild nights!
Were I with thee,
Wild nights should be
Our luxury!

Futile the winds
To a heart in port,
Done with the compass,
Done with the chart.

Rowing in Eden!
Ah! the sea!
Might I but moor
To-night in thee!

get it, girl.

home is where the beach is

man, i love this place.

except for the bugs. there’s a lot of bugs here.

welcome to the newness

exciting developments happening round here.

updated the ol’ website, moved the blog successffully (i feel like there should be two fs in there), and finally plunked down a chunk of change for a new camera.

haven’t been out too much with it, but had a couple days of fun with it so far at/around work:

stop. look and listen.

look:

this is my favorite building on the way to work. i love the colors and the worn down lettering.

saw this scrawled on a subway ad while waiting for the train. it definitely expresses much of the way i felt about math during high school.

listen:

it’s so slick. good saturday evening vibe.

easy like sunday morning

it’s been a while but this weekend we got our internet fixed! it’s been a nice day, very slow and lazy. woke up late, ate, had a nap.

when i was little, i thought bob marley’s song no woman no cry was telling someone if they had no woman they shouldn’t cry. then i realized really recently that it was actually no, woman, no cry. not no woman, no cry.

that’s the end of that.

i bought a lot of music this past week. i like amazon a lot better than itunes. it’s cheaper a lot of the time eventhough they have less selection.

i don’t have anything else to say. i thought of all these funny things this week to write about but now i don’t remember them.

this is why you should research anything you are going to name. ever. uku means flea (or lice or ticks or that kind of gross thing) in hawaiian. ukulele means ‘jumping flea’ because when the instrument was brought to the islands, the players’ fingers moved so fast it was like jumping fleas.

so, ukuladies is cute, but uh it’s kind of gross. like lice infested ladies.

oh well.

for them.

hahahaha.

i like this joshua radin guy. i like his voice. yep, amazon purchase!

i like this bus.

sweet sentiments

so, we’ve moved! yeah, actually it’s been quite a while, but we didn’t have internet for a long time and ever since we got it it’s been on the fritz. not reliable at all. in fact, i’m using someone else’s internet in our building right now to write this.

i just thought it was about time i put something else up. i like this song. it’s old school and sweet. i love aaron neville. his ‘crazy love’ is one of my absolute favorite songs. ever.

‘i don’t know much, but i know i love you, and that may be all i need to know.’

isn’t that lovely? they don’t write songs that sweet anymore. now you just take an object (cyclone, helicopter, dog, salt shaker, polaroid) and tell the listeners to um move like it.

speaking of sweet, it was my parents’ 30th anniversary this past week. it jsut warms my heart, i mean 30 years. that’s a lot. you know what they did to celebrate? they saw kung fu panda at the dollar theater and ate at p.f. chang’s because they had a buy one get one free coupon…..

i know. here’s to celebrating 30 years.

but then i thought, i guess after 30 years, i’d be happy with just a cheap dinner and a movie. i mean, at that point it really isn’t what you do, it’s who you’re with, and that’s all you need to know.

goodbye les

it’s 11:30pm and i’m looking around at my tiny room. i meant to post yesterday but i was so tired i fell asleep at around 10. tonight i spent most of my free hours packing up boxes, luggage and dismantling my shitty ikea wardrobe. it is scary and stupid that i climbed on that thing more than once now that i see what it’s made of. tomorrow more packing and then friday, the move!

i feel a little sad that we’re moving, even though we’ve only lived here for a year and we’re moving 15 blocks away and this is the tiniest apartment ever. it’s my first real apartment so i guess i can be nostalgic about it even if sometimes it didn’t feel so much like a real apartment but more like a doll house. you know that geico commercial that used to run that was about a fake reality show called “tiny house?”

i remember i totally believed it was a show because it came out at the same time that that bachelor-like show about the dwarf was on. anyway, sometimes i feel like we live in that house. and now we’re leaving :o (

it’s crazy how fast things happen when you aren’t paying attention.

today i listened to the pirates of the carribbean sp? that looks wrong…. soundtrack four times. that’s all i listened to. it’s an amazing soundtrack. it makes me feel like i’m really DOING something, even though i’m just walking down the street to the train. it makes that kind of trip feel epic.

just wanted to post a quick song, i’ve been really digging stevie wonder’s not so mainstreamed stuff. wish i posted this yesterday cause it’s called tuesday heartbreak but alas, i didn’t.

bon appetit
